Hitting the restart button

Anyone that knows me or has worked with me is well aware that I don’t typically subscribe to the idea of a fad diet, especially for weight loss but I never say never so here I am-day 2 into a 3 day low sugar juice fast.

The idea occurred to me during a walk with a friend. She mentioned a new juice bar in the area that was promoting a juice cleanse she had tried and described her experience to me. She didn’t exactly sell me on the idea. She said she was cranky and hungry and couldn’t bare to step foot in the kitchen because all she was thinking about was food. Mind you, this friend of mine is super slim and fit so I couldn’t help but ask why she would endure this torture. Her answer was simple-she needed to hit a reset. She had fallen into the quarantine trap set by months of living in PJs with well stocked pantries and refrigerators with 24 hour access. She was looking for a way to become more mindful of food and start “fresh” after a quick juice cleanse. I could relate. I think most of can. She said her planned worked and the day of fasting followed by a single day of a juice cleanse set her on a path of clean eating a daily exercise. So, in the name of science and in a response the the 3 extra pounds that my scale informed me of, I set out to do the same.

I didn‘t want to fast for a full day prior to the juice cleanse and I wanted an option that included protein so I found one on line that I decided to try. The company was also running a discounted price promotion and I’m a sucker for a sale. There were many options to chose from but I settled on the 3 day low sugar option with 100% natural ingredients. The product arrived a few days later, fully frozen and freezer packed. This cleanse provides 6 juices a day with no particular plan and no exact order in which you need to consume each juice. This flexibility was another bonus for me.

Day 1 was a breeze. In fact, I could not even finish all the juices. I‘m not going to lie, the straight up juice blends were delicious but the 2 with protein and fat, were difficult to swallow. They are both dairy free but a little chalky. Maybe it’s a consistency thing for me. I drank them anyway because the other 4 juices only provided me with 220 calories and zero fat or protein. I can not in anyway promote that as healthy. In fact, the total calories in this juice cleanse is very low in my opinion. It’s less than 1000 calories a day. According to my FitBit, I burned that many calories before noon. If those 3 extra pounds make it through this juice cleanse, I’ll be shocked.

It‘s day 2, I’ve have 1 and 1/2 juices so far and I’m hungry. I’ll check back after the cleanse is finished and provide a link to the company that I purchased the juices from in case anybody else wants to try it.

I’m not sponsored by this company and am I not promoting any particular juice cleanse. What I AM promoting is the idea that we are worth the effort when it comes to enacting change. This is just one way to start the process. Every single one of us is different and finds motivation from various sources. I’ve never tried a juice fast, or any fast for that matter but when my friends and clients come to me to ask my opinion on the subject, I want to have the experience and personal knowledge to share with them...and with you-my reader
