Happy Thanksgiving

I love the holiday of Thanksgiving. Everyday should be Thanksgiving. We should all spend more time thinking about what matters most to us and be thankful for it. Even the little things. I am truly fortunate to have a long list. What are you thankful for?

As a dietitian, I like the idea that an entire day is devoted to the planning and preparation of food. If only we thought this much about what we eat every day! Mindful eating can make a significant impact on your health. The French attitude toward eating is an excellent example. Meals are drawn out affairs. Food is chewed slowly and thoughtfully. Conversations are had over several courses and portions are reasonable, yet filling. The French eat well but do not suffer from the alarming rate of obesity as Americans. They also are more active than Americans, but that is a blog post for another day. For now, just take the time to mindfully enjoy your Thanksgiving dinner. Eat well, be well, live well. Happy Thanksgiving!
